Blue Wildebeest Hunting Areas in the Eastern Cape, South Africa

Valley Bushveld Safaris concession areas consist of 19 privately owned game farms, allowing us to operate within a 300 km radius from our home base, which is close to Addo in the Eastern Cape in search of the best plains game trophy animals such as Wildebeest.

Difference between the Black and Blue Wildebeest

The most obvious way of telling the difference between the two antelope species are the differences in colouring and in the way there horns are formed and coloured.

The Blue Wildebeest horns are larger than the Black and grow out to the side, then down before curving back up. The blacks Wildebeest horns grow forward then down before curving back up.

The Blue Wildebeest is the most abundant big game species which migrate to new grazing grounds, while the Black Wildebeest is merely nomadic.

We offer hunting packages for both Blue and Black Wildebeest.

Hunting Blue Wildebeest

The Wildebeest (the poor man's buffalo) are tough antelopes and are usually found roaming open plans and bushveld areas with horns 25 to 30 inches, and even wider.

Hunting Blue Wildebeest can be extremely challenging and if wounded the Wildebeest can become extremely dangerous, and are known for charging. It is suggested you do not hunt wildebeest with less than .270 caliber, specifically in bushveld conditions.

Average shooting distance is 50 to 150 yards depending on the terrain you are hunting. Wildebeest are usually hunted walk-and-stalk or from a hide or blind if Bow Hunting.
